PRS Silver Sky in Moc Sand Satin. Maple Neck and Fingerboard. 7lb 1oz

Two and a half years in the making, the Silver Sky was based around John and Paul's favourite elements from their own vintage '63 and '64 guitars. The aim was to take vintage inspired design and fuse it with the instantly recognisable PRS magic, creating the best reimagining of the classic vintage single coil guitar.

With an Alder body, it offers a traditional and supremely comfortable playing experience. Well balanced and featuring the signature PRS lower horn scoop, it delivers great access right up the neck. The body design was based around the PRS DC3 and adjusted and tweaked until it offered the shape that both Paul and John were happy with. The 22 fret bolt on satin Maple neck has a 25.5" scale length, 7.25" radius and features PRS acoustic frets, these frets are slightly larger than vintage frets but a touch smaller than the standard PRS frets. With a satin Maple fingerboard, which has small bird inlays, the smooth satin finish offers a classic feel of a well worn in 'S' type. The classic PRS headstock has been reversed on the Silver Sky to give some extra clearance on the underside of the nut, it offers great tuning stability and a really exclusive look to this signature model.

The trio of single coils have been designed to provide the same vintage tone we all crave but also utilise everything PRS have learnt about pickup design and construction. A blend of '63 and '64 pickups, they have a really musical high end and a higher signal to noise ratio. These precision engineered single coils are everything you would expect a tone junkie like Mayer to dig.

To complete this powerhouse guitar there is a redesigned bridge, this tremolo is set up differently to other PRS guitars in that because the back plate sits flush to the body, you can only drop in pitch. This gives that real vintage response and more organic sound.

Complete with a high quality PRS gigbag, the PRS Silver Sky is a real player's guitar, whether you are in the studio or on the stage, this guitar will deliver the goods!

ADDITIONAL INFO

This model was based off of Mayer and Smith’s favorite elements from 1963 and 1964 vintage instruments, resulting in an idealized version of a vintage single-coil guitar. The attention that was paid to every detail sets this guitar apart.

“It’s been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that includes some of my favorite vintage specifications but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement, the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like.” – John Mayer

Some of the more distinctive specifications include, the headstock shape, tuners, neck and fretboard, bridge, and pickups and electronics. The headstock shape is based on PRS’s trademark design, but inverted to both accommodate Mayer’s playing style and also to keep a consistent length of string behind the nut, which makes staying in tune easier. The tuners are a traditional vintage-style, closed-back tuner, but with PRS’s locking design. The neck shape was modeled after 1963/1964 vintage instruments, and the fretboard has a 7.25” radius. The moment your hand grabs this neck, it just feels right. Like the tuners, the steel tremolo takes a classic design and incorporates PRS’s trem arm and Gen III knife-edge screws. The bridge on the Silver Sky is setup flush to the body in the neutral position so that the tremolo bridge only goes down in pitch. By keeping the bridge in contact with the body, the guitar itself is acoustically louder, which improves the signal to noise ratio of the single-coil pickups. The 635JM single-coil pickups are very round and full, with a musical high end that is never “ice-picky” or brash.

Other high-quality specifications include a bone nut, a molded metal jack plate that is curved and makes plugging and unplugging a guitar cable hassle-free, retooled knobs, fretwire that is slightly smaller than what you’d find on most PRS electric guitars, and PRS’s double action truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use).

The Silver Sky comes in four colors with distinctive accents on PRS’s trademark lower horn scoop. PRS premium gig bag included.
